University Avenue/Branch Street update: Almost there
Around noon today, January 17, the City of Middleton's Public Works Department provided an update on the traffic lights at the intersection of University Avenue and Branch Street, which have been out of order since a drunk driver took out the control box last week.: The traffic lights at University Avenue and Branch Street may be flashing red periodically today, Tuesday, January 17, as work is being done to install new equipment. However, power will not be fully restored yet as the technicians are still waiting for parts. The intersection will remain a four-way stop until power is fully restored, which Public Works hopes will be before the next expected snowfall Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
'Drive Sober' campaign: More than OWI
The Middleton Police Department recently wrapped up its participation in the statewide and national 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' holiday campaign. According to a statement by the department, its officers made five OWI arrests between December 16 and New Year’s Day. While the focus of the initiative was to eliminate impaired driving, during traffic stops officers also issued citations for fifteen speeding violations, three 'operating after revocation or suspension violations' and one 'safety belt violation', and they made one 'drug arrest' and one 'felony arrest'.
