The City and MADC: The end of a beautiful friendship?
On January 17, Middleton mayor Gurdip Brar briefed the Middleton Common Council about "concerns" with MADC, the Middleton Area Development Corporation, including lack of communication, lack of accountability, lack of transparency, and actions taken by the MADC Board to limit City participation in MADC decisions - to name but these. He also said MADC never responded to a letter he had written in November 2022 requesting a meeting with MADC president Kevin Mahaney to discuss his concerns:
"A grave concern has arisen regarding the relationship between the City and our Middleton Area Development Corporation.
On November 4, 2022, I wrote to Kevin Mahaney, the president of MADC. (...) It has now been over two months since that letter invited the opportunity for the City and MADC to discuss issues of mutual concern, but MADC has failed to respond in any way - not even acknowledging receipt of the letter. This refusal to respond can only mean that MADC has no interest in discussing any of the questions raised in the letter - including the uncontroversial request that MADC report annually to the City on its activities.
