Spring elections: The candidates for Common Council (I)
On April 4, city of Middleton residents will be asked to elect a new mayor and new Common Council representatives for Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7. Current mayor Gurdip Brar is retiring, and two candidates are running for the open position: Kathy Olson, current Council member for District 1, and Emily Kuhn, current Council member for District 4. The open seat in District 1 has two candidates: Cornell Ellerby and John Schaffer. District 3 incumbent Katy Nelson is being challenged by Lucas Morgan, while Jeffrey Jackson is the only candidate for the open seat left by Luke Fuszard in District 5, and David Lorman is the only candidate for the open seat left by Dan Ramsey in District 7.
In email interviews, I asked all candidates a few questions to allow them to introduce themselves. The answers from the unopposed District 5 and District 7 candidates are published below; Districts 1 and 3 will follow next week, and the candidates for mayor on February 28, the day before the big candidates forum/debate at the Middleton Public Library (see below for announcement). The replies are published below, unedited, except for clarity and to comply with the Middleton e-View style guidelines. The photos were supplied by the candidates.
