Street-improvement plan: Century Avenue in 2026?
Dane County is mixing up the City of Middleton's carefully assembled 'five-year street improvement plan', as the latter's schedule for street maintenance, repair and reconstruction projects is known (see map for the proposed five-year schedule before changes made by the Public Works Committee and the County's proposal). The City budgets about $2 million annually in capital borrowing money (i.e. not including TIF or other funds) for those projects, and every year the Public Works Department updates the five-year plan before it is discussed by the Public Works Committee, the Plan Commission and, newly, the Pedestrian, Bicycle and Transit Committee (PBTC). Final approval rests with the City Council upon a recommendation by the Finance Committee. Changes are often made along the way, and sometimes even later in the fall, during budget discussions.
