Housing (I): Is Middleton's housing crisis of the City's own making?

A presentation at the March 26 Plan Commission on the housing situation in Middleton by City planning staff and with contributions from several local developers, including Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau (Belle Farm) Terrence Wall (Bruce Company, Middleton Center, Bishops Bay) and Chad Wuebben (Redtail Ridge), confirmed what has been widely known for many years: Demand is higher than supply, supply is lopsided towards one-bedroom apartments, and much of what is being built it is unaffordable for many people, especially those looking for multi-bedroom units, never mind single-family homes. In short, housing is scarce and expensive. (Pictured above is a slide from the presentation by City staff showing median home values in Dane county.)
